June – The Creek Wars

Michael Ports is the speaker for our June member meeting. His presentation looks at the Creek Wars – part of the American Indian wars that continued through most of the 19th century.

Join us Saturday, June 15th, at the Southeast Branch Library for a fascinating look at the Indian wars that impacted Florida and a number of other southeastern states.

Check-in begins at 12:30pm and the meeting is called to order at 1:00pm. Visitors are always welcome at no charge.

Saturday, May 18th, is the date for our May Member Meeting. Our speaker this month is Lori Smith Miranda. Her presentation takes a look at genealogical synchronicity and family patterns. Lori serves on the board of the Amelia Island Genealogical Society and is one of the instructors for the society’s annual Beginning Genealogy course.

April – Introduction to FamilySearch

Our April Member Meeting will be held a week later than usual so everyone can enjoy Easter weekend. Join us on Saturday, April 27th, at the Southeast Branch Library at 6670 U.S. 1 South. Check-in begins at 12:30pm and the meeting is called to order at 1:00pm.

Denise Olson will introduce us to FamilySearch. FamilySearch is the largest genealogy organization in the world with millions of people using FamilySearch’s records, resources and services each year to learn more about their family history. Even better, all this genealogy goodness is freely available to all of us. The program takes us on a tour of the many features and services FamilySearch supports and shows you how to create your account and get started using FamilySearch’s Family Tree, Search and Memories components.

Guests are always welcome.

March – Unlock the Mystery of Autosomal DNA

For our March member meeting Connie Bradshaw returns with more DNA goodness to help our research efforts. Her presentation takes a look at the different companies providing Autosomal DNA testing along with their pros and cons, what results are provided from the testing labs and what to do with your results.

Connie is a 26 year U.S. Navy veteran, a member of a variety of national and local genealogical and historical societies and a well-known speaker on genetic genealogy. In addition to genealogical research, Connie advises individuals on methods of preserving their own life stories, photos and heirlooms with the Legacy Stories’ Reminiscing With Purpose program.

Our March meeting will be held on Saturday, March 16th, at the Southeast Branch Library located at 6670 US 1 South, St. Augustine, FL. Check-in begins at 12:30pm with the meeting called to order at 1:00pm. Visitors are always welcome at no charge.
